Global Ship Emissions Proxies

This website makes available the global ship proxy data from AMVER, ICOADS and an improved ICOADS data set, which we suggest is the most appropriate global ship traffic proxy identified to date for using a top down approach.

These proxy data can be used to allocate global inventory estimates for fuel use or emissions to spatial domains. This allows others to use these spatial proxies without also depending on our global estimates. We suggest using updated inventories published in JGR by Corbett and Koehler (2003/2004). These estimates are in good agreement with 2005 published work in JGR by Eyring et al. Spatially resolved maps using these inventories and power-weighted ICOADS data are posted here.

Data Notes:

All data are zip files containing monthly and annual averages in ASCII format with .asc file extensions.

All data are global grids in the WGS84 coordinate system.
